Army For Animals and Halloween Vegan Treats - Mermaid Blog - 102909

We Mermaids and Mermen wonder about your holiday called “Halloween”.

I can understand flower festivals, sunshine, and exalting the Creator, but what do humans get out of indulging in thoughts of death?

By “owning” and participating in it, do you assuage your innate fears?

Of course, the cute little costuming is one thing, but we Mers strongly suggest that everyone who is a sane, caring individual human be on watch all the time - and especially on Halloween - and to protect every being on our Planet.

I'm listing information on how to report any suspicious activity or cruelty of any kind, danger, or threatening behavior.

Holidays should be fun for every being.

We don’t like the loud noises, and most beings do not like them.

Meanwhile, let's find some fun ways to celebrate the fun aspects of Halloween!

Below for Healthy Halloween Treats.

Protect

Army for animals is a worldwide group of kids and adults who love animals and protect them.
Feel free to copy and print your Army4Animals Logo and wear it proudly!
By doing daily acts of heroism, by helping to spread the word about being kind to all animals, we make the world a better place.
Joining the army for animals is as easy as downloading a sticker, or placing a banner and link o n your site.
Everyone who loves animals is invited to become a part of this wonderful group, who fearlessly stands up for those who cannot help themselves.

Keep watch

Please use these links to report any cases of animal abuse you see or hear about.
Remember to find out the contact information for your local aspca or spca, in case you find a lost or injured animal, or in case you see someone being unkind to one
Use this link to find your local aspca
http://www.aspca.org

Report

If you see an act of cruelty to an animal, call 911 immediately, and report it. They will tell the animal control people, and it's great to keep the phone number of animal control handy for such emergencies.
The Humane Society is preferable, in cases of lost pets, because they operate o n attempts to keep pets alive, while shelters often are so overpopulated with animals that they euthanize, meaning they put them to sleep. Some communities do not have a local humane society, in which case, please contact your local aspca.
http://www.hsus.org/ace/352

Adopt

If you hear of someone who is going to get a new pet, please encourage him to stay away from pet stores and from breeders - they cause much abuse to animals. Please ask him to adopt a needy dog or cat from the local shelter. It's so much better to save a life!

Get Fixed

Whenever you see someone with a pet who is not neutered or spayed, which means to fix them so they will not have to have babies, please ask the owners to get them fixed, since the millions of abandoned and unwanted overpopulations of dogs and cats cause so many to be eventually put to sleep at shelters.

If people get their pets neutered and spayed, then when someone wants to adopt a new pet, they can go to a shelter and rescue o ne, thereby saving a life!
This link will help you find low-cost and free getting fixed information!

Heroism

By protecting the helpless, by standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves, take care of themselves, or even communicate with us, we are doing heroic acts.
Like the Animal Planet Heroes, we are all capable of saving lives every day!
Join the worldwide Army for Animals, and become one of the leaders in making our world a wonderful place for all of its' citizens!

Why The Interest in Mermaids and Mermen?

And Follow Us On Twitter!

I have no idea why you humans are so apparently obsessed with the idea of Mers, unless it has to do with the fact that - as yet - there is no proof that we exist, except in human imagination.

And - why do humans imagine fairytale beings at all?

Well, first of all, as a Mermaid, I can tell you that we are not obsessed with humans in the same way. Most obviously, because we know for sure that you exist!

So, let's say we take away the mystery about the existence of the Mers conclusively - not that we will ever let that happen, but...for the sake of this discussion - it still seems obvious that, given the prevalence of your myths and legends spanning the range of behaviors attributed to us Mers, there might even be more obsession with us.

And, as we suspect, most likely, annoying us, chasing us, and attempting to photograph and film us would become the number one human occupation.

So, now that you understand that we do not want to be among you for many, many reasons, we can go back to our ideas of why humans are interested in the Mers.

Not that fish aren’t fascinating - all of us - but there is that pesky resemblance to humans, that even Mers admit to, so there is the most obvious reason for our constant appearance in your bodies of mythologies from nations all over the world.

And, the silence from Mers, except for our singing that humans hear on occasion, allows the innate human quality of creation to fill in the blanks with whatever is in his or her head at the time, so myths abound in both directions - having Mers be good or bad, according to the story.

Naturally you find us beautiful and handsome, since we do resemble humans above the waist.

And, I must admit our voices are lovely, without exception. It’s just part of being a Mer. And did you know that all fish talk and sing? Yes, and many other fish species sing with great ability.

Humans are amazingly myopic. Egocentrism is the norm, and it’s used by humans all too often in order to objectify other beings in order to visit cruelty upon them.

Do you understand why we have so little to do with your specie?

At times, having seen us - male and female - seated upon rocks or sandy islets, engaged in one of our necessary occupations like combing out our tresses, I suppose the idea of the vanity of the Mers has become attached to us - quite unfairly!

Imagine the tangles we must endure!

Fashioning combs out of shells or even using combs found on the sea floor and using them is a mundane and necessary task for us, but we are often perceived as vain and petty. We are far from thinking about how gorgeous or hunky we are when we’re merely making our manes manageable!

Oh, the things that have been said!

We’re individuals, as are humans and as are members of every specie.

Some are more into themselves than others, of course, but usually, we’re just living our lives, humming to ourselves and enjoying the sunshine on our scales - and holding our breath, of course - our water, that is, since we breathe water, and can only sit in the air for brief times!

So, it’s necessary to put oneself in others’ shoes - or, fins - via empathy - for either the Mers or the humans to attempt to understand each other.

I will continue to transmit on this subject as we go along.

For now, though, I’m off for a brisk swim!

October 21, 2009

So many would-be Mermaids and Mermen write to me for information on our lives, that I feel I will be sharing much about our lives with all of you as the months roll by.

First, we are fish.
Yes, The Mers are proud to be cold-blooded, shimmering, quick, lively members of the huge order of fish.
We groan on hearing that some attempt to pin the name of mammal to us. We are definitely not warm-blooded, slow, furry, child-bearing mammals!
We’d have to be enormous, like Manatees, and just as slow, to be mammals.
Fish are, after all, the most gloriously gorgeous of all the species on our planet, don’t you think?
Silvery, most of us, glimmering, scaled, exquisitely shaped, and fast as underwater lightning!
We, like all fish, lay eggs, and don't go through any sort of awkward period of malformation that mars the early months or years of the offspring of mammals.
We’re always gorgeous!
I can’t imagine having warm blood - always having to stay in warm latitudes, worrying about temperatures all the time, and so on. Even wearing clothing!
Of course, speaking of Manatees, we all adore them, and spend lots of time playing with them when they venture out to salt watery seas - and - this is key! - if the Manatees choose to be among us Mers. We always communicate with them and with every other member of other species, and honor their own choices. Similarly, humans should, of course, always let any other member of other species decide for him or herself if encounters might be possible.
We think Manatees are great! They’re beautiful as they are - large and ponderous, extremely intelligent, and soulful.
We Mers just tend to be quite different.
We’re quick, agile, and thoroughly enjoy traveling all about the globe, never having to be confined in one area or another.
The only thing we must pursue is the plant growth. After all, we’re vegan - and this we share with the Manatees and with the Great Sea Turtles - and we love certain types of seaweed and sea grasses more than others. They have growing seasons and areas where they’re more delectable than others, and so we tend to congregate there, much as you humans crowd into restaurants!
And - naturally, we Mers have a special fondness for humans who are compassionate enough to be vegan, and it is only they we approach. Would you like ot learn more about becoming Vegan?

What Is Green?

What is green ?

Well, first, my world - the ocean is green. And also, your world is, ideally, green. Trees, plants, hillsides, meadows, forests, jungles, all are green.

Green is the color of renewal, of Spring, of LIFE.

That's why it's spoken of as the color of eco, of saving our environment, even of money, which is a free-flowing element, like the sea. The color of life and love is green.

Also, read these cool articles : Greenize

In the season of renewal, it's great to think about Spring cleaning of our bodies, first, and then of our homes. The Mers always eat great vegan food, so our systems are clear, and if you do, then yours is, but if you eat bad foods that clog your system, think about going to a health food store and getting a cleanse product. It will help you feel as good as Mers do !

Of course, to stay energetic, youthful, energetic and healthy, eat vegan foods always.

And for your homes - please, for all of our sakes - use only eco, green products in everything you buy.

I know most green-minded humans go to their health food stores for all their purchases.

That's great!

Meanwhile, will you go out and have some fun? Every day, like us, you should schedule some play time, preferably with a pet. I have noticed that far too many of you, even those who walk daily at the shore, don't really stretch or allow themselves to be joyous, or to run and play!

We Mers swim quickly and chase each other for fun all the time, at any age, just like your little kids do - but we do it all our lives! Certain times of day, like around sunset, we're often mistaken for large fish flipping our tails near the coastlines of the world, where we're doing acrobatics, playing our own games and just expressing our glee at being alive!

I wish I could encourage everyone - especially the grown ups, who are so sullen, to run, skip, and play!

Why not?

Just, in the Northern realms of our planet, one more month of Summer.

I always get a little misty in late Summer, when I see the subtle signs of Winter's approach.

The last day of Summer, on September 21, is always a day that I personally celebrate by being as Summery as possible.

Speaking of the blues, do you remember when I'd said I was having relationship woes?

That Merman who was being too possessive? Too bestial?

Yes, I know that all Mermen, at least in your own human histories, have had the reputation for being fierce, tough on females, and so on, but really, as with your own specie, Mermen have to be considered individually.

Some are sensitive, tender, compassionate ( I mean, to females! All Mermen are saviours of all other wildlife, heroic, and so on...strong, protective), and when the protective thing in their genes gets out of proportion, well...

Anyway, I've been realy in limbo about it for a couple of years now!

He's such a wonderful guy...we have so much fun together...

I can't allow myself to be controlled, or afraid...even a little.

He says he's so in love with me that he'll kill himself if I leave him, and sometimes...he threatens to kill us both.

That's not normal.

I hope all of you human females will take care to get protected from your beaux if they, too, get too possessive, controlling, and scary.

I am taking time apart, now, to assess the situation.

He's getting help - professional help - Yes, Mers also have their needs for counseling, and spiritual advice. In this, we're similar - our two species.

Next time I'll be more "up" for you all.

Swim on!

Mermaid Blog - Sea Turtles

For Earlier Mermaid Blog Entries, Visit Ecoize.com

And Help Us Save Beautiful Sea Turtles Here at Oceana.org

I've been out swimming with dolphins, enjoying careening through large waves at high tide, body surfing with them and with the many other sea beings who enjoy surfing and playing when the waves are large! Other mammals like dolphins and porpoises do, and even manatees, and many types of fish like I am of all sizes love to be lifted up, carried for a ride, and, depending on the size of the fish and of the wave, some smaller ones jump out of the face of the folding wave and jump backward to behind the wave lines, and some dive straight down into the water as it's pulling backward, under the wave before it falls!

I do some of both, since we Mers tend to a larger size than many of the other fish who body surf, but then again, many of the sea mammals who body surf do so further away from the beach and the shallow water, following boats and getting lifted up by the wakes the crafts bring!

Along with having fun and enjoying the colors of the sunsets, as all the fish who live near enough to the surface do, jumping up sometimes in whole troops to see the strong fuscias, goldens, and oranges spread out along the horizon and to say a shimmering good-night to the Sun, I've been staying close to the areas where the magnificent sea turtles lay their eggs, watching out for the nests and so on. Now the babies are mainly hatched and out in the open seas of the world enjoying their childhoods!

I'm happy in a way that Baby Turtle season is over, since I worry about their nests, strewn out along our coastlines in the warm seas, and watched over by countless wonderful human volunteers, who walk the beaches morning and night to find and to protect their nests with fencing, and so on - not because I don't adore seeing the Darling Babies clambering cutely along the sand and running straight into the water to swim their tiny hearts out! Not because of them, of course - just because it's stressful, helping to watch out for them! I and many other Mers spend lots of time near the shore, just making sure their nests are safe while the Mama turtles are laying the eggs and while the little eggs are needing safety while the babies develop inside, and then - oh, joy! - the babies hatch! We're all out there, making commotions with our huge tails to divert people who might carelessly walk too near the nests, or making noise to deter birds from going near, and scaring away alligators or other animals!

And when we're in shallow water, it's not as comfortable, with our long tails, and with our need to stay incognito, so it's understandable that our favorite part of the whole seven month period is when we Mers can breathe a watery lungful of relief and retreat out to deep water as we escort the Baby Turtles !They're so cute! We love helping the humans who protectcthe turtles, and when the babies hatch, then we get to accompany them as they swim with their precious little arms out to sea, unlike the humans!

This is the most fun part of all! We wish we could share this with those who devote their time to be "foster parents" for all wildlife.

We adore the humans who volunteer to help save innocent lives!

So, after the babies begin to swim, we collectively stretch out to our full length and go out to kelp beds where we - all Mers are vegan, of course - feed on fresh seaweed with the little newborn turtles!

Then, we Mers, stretching and swimming all around, get to see tons of these little dolls as they discover our fabulous underwater world!

It's a really fun time of year, and I thought I'd share it with you, since most humans will never know the thrill of seeing the babies hatch, and no human will ever see them learning to swim out at sea.

I hope you can imagine it!

Being a Mer is fun!
